How to read a license
Four lines worth reading before you put a Florida contractor on the job.
01 · Status
Whether the license is active on the file date. Active, inactive, expired and suspended are said in words. Anything else is marked unknown, not guessed.
02 · License type
The letters before the number. A C code, like CGC, is certified and can work anywhere in Florida. An R code, like RG, is registered and can work only where it holds a local license.
03 · Bond and workers' comp
DBPR's file doesn't list them. Check workers' comp on the state's proof of coverage search. Many counties ask for a bond to pull permits.
04 · Expires
Null and void, delinquent and involuntarily inactive licenses are left out of the file, and it doesn't say which.

What does this Florida contractor license lookup show?
Status, license type, qualifier, business name, address, and expiration from the DBPR construction and electrical licensee files. A number looks like letters plus digits, such as CGC or EC, with or without leading zeros. The file does not list a bond, workers’ compensation, or a phone number.
How fresh is the Florida file?
DBPR refreshes the download about weekly. The date under the search box is the file we loaded, not a live check. A status can change before the next file. For the board’s current record, use DBPR’s license search.
What do the license statuses mean?
Active means DBPR lists the license as current. Inactive means it is current but cannot be used to contract until it is reactivated. Suspended and expired are labeled in those words. A current license on probation stays Active, with that note. Null and void, delinquent, and involuntarily inactive licenses are left out of the download.
What if the number is missing, or I need a bond?
DBPR’s download leaves out null and void, delinquent, and involuntarily inactive licenses, and it does not say which. It may also be a typo. Check the number on DBPR’s license search. Bonds are not in this file. Workers’ comp coverage is on the state’s proof of coverage search.
